Ohio State football is needing to undertake Notre Dame without their biggest weapon with Jaxon Smith-Njigba on the sidelines having an apparent injury.

Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, his impact was in his absence on Saturday because they faced off with Notre Dame in the growing season opener.

Smith-Njigba started the overall game but took popular early and arrived of the overall game. His status unknown, he was spotted on the sidelines in the initial half with out a helmet while being monitored by way of a trainer.

Late in the half, he put his helmet back on and returned in to the game.

The hit that apparently prompted Smith-Njigbas exit was to his head but its not yet determined if thats the problem or if another thing is bothering him.

Whatever it really is, it was no ideal moment for the star wide receiver to be unavailable.

The Buckeyes want to start their 2022 season off with a statement victory contrary to the Irish. Without Smith-Njigba on the field, the offense wasnt exactly lighting things up. They trailed Notre Dame 10-8 late in the next quarter.

Smith-Njigba had 1,606 yards and nine touchdowns as a sophomore in 2021. He arrived to the 2022 season as a Biletnikoff Award contender because the top receiver in a receiving corps absolutely packed with talent.

The Buckeyes need to balance their have to have him on the field against a stout opponent with the need to keep him healthy for the rest of the campaign.

His situation is someone to watch because the game continues on.

Update:After appearing out of the locker room for halftime, it had been announced on the broadcast that Smith-Njigba would skip the remainder of the overall game contrary to the Irish. Thats an enormous blow for a Buckeyes team that has been trailing at halftime.
