One Piece Episode 1031

How can you rate episode 1031 of

One Piece ? Community score: 4.1

One Piece episode 1031 returns us to the One Piece that people know and love (or hate, based on your affinity for roofs). I for just one am glad to be back again to Wano proper, if for no other reason than to start out moving towards the resolution of the arc that people have spent much too long in.

The Kaido and Luffy punching continues unabated. Plenty of big hammer blows and shaking screens with explosions along with Onigashima. Ah, home sweet home. However, not a lot of consequence happens apart from the punchies.

The mid-level chase sequence in this episode is more noteworthy. Nami and Usopp are always great together, and there are a few fun moments in this sequence. I particularly liked the scene if they were pummeling Page One, and Usopp’s speech to Tama was terrific. Having said that, both manga and the anime get this to chase feel just like it continues on for roughly 100 miles with a repeating background loop. I wish there have been more landmarks or clear objectives apart from escape to break a few of this up because literal months have gone by in true to life plus they are still running down exactly the same hallway in the show (that appears like a half dozen other hallways where fighting is happening elsewhere).

The big standout of the episode is everything with Tama and Big Mom. Wano is indeed long that it’s an easy task to lose an eye on the minor threads and sub-plots which have developed throughout, aside from stay committed to them, since they get spread over such long publishing times. Having said that, this thread feels particularly resonant and due to Big Mom’s involvement, somehow more tragic. Tama’s emotional pleas and recounting of what happened are delivered expertly by the voice cast and the animation team pulls out all of the stops. When Big Mom hits Page One you truly have the blow and the emotional weight behind it a rare feat in this arc of big explosive punches.

Glad to possess you back, One Piece. Allow roof fighting continue.
