Over 150,00 pounds of pizza recalled due to insufficient inspection

Pizza Johns of Essex, MD, is recalling 156,498 pounds of pizza peperoni products which were produced minus the advantage of federal inspection.

The U.S. Department of Agricultures Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) can be involved that some product could be in consumers freezers.

The issue was discovered during routine FSIS surveillance activities when it had been determined that the pizza peperoni products didn’t have the USDA mark of inspection and were stated in an establishment that has been not inspected by USDA.

The frozen pizza peperoni products were produced and distributed into commerce on dates from March 2020 through July 28, 2022.

The next products are at the mercy of recall:

  • 33.25-oz. clear plastic wrapped packages containing PIZZA JOHNS BAKE IN THE HOME 12 Inch PIZZA PEPERONI with UPC code 9589334921.
  • 57-oz. clear plastic wrapped packages containing PIZZA JOHNS BAKE IN THE HOME 16 Inch PIZZA PEPERONI with UPC code 958939019.

The merchandise at the mercy of recall usually do not bear the USDA mark of inspection because Pizza Johns isn’t a federally inspected establishment. These things were shipped to retail locations in Maryland.

By the posting of the recall, there were no confirmed reports of effects because of the consumption of the products. Anyone worried about a reaction should contact a doctor.

Consumers who’ve purchased the products are urged never to consume them. The products should be disposed of or returned to the area of purchase.
