It’s reportedly become “increasinglyrealistic” the Boston Red Sox will undoubtedly be seller prior to the 2022 MLBtrade deadline on Aug. 2 after having fallen to fourth invest the ALEast.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported Tuesdayrival executives expect Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloomwill be “open for business” with J.D. Martinez, Enrique “Kike” Hernandezand Nathan Eovaldi leading the notable names who could possibly be positioned on thetrade block.

Even though Boston proceeds with a firesale, Xander Bogaerts isn’t the type of who will be moved despite having a new player option in his six-year, $120 million contractwhich could make him a free of charge agent at season’s end, per Passan.

The Red Sox have tumbled down thestandings in recent weeks amid a cold stretch which includes a 2-8record over their past 10 games. The skid was lowlighted by way of a 28-5loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.

Boston’s record stands at 49-48,and it’s really three games behind the Seattle Mariners (52-45) for thefinal wild-card spot in a crowded AL playoff race.

If leading office decides contentionisn’t possible, it might benefit from a trade market lackingsellers with high-impact assets.

Martinez, a longtime outfielder who’sexclusively played designated hitter for the Red Sox this year, would immediately become among the best players available. He’sposted a .302/.368/.481 slash line with nine home runs in 81appearances in 2022.

The 34-year-old slugger, who’s comingoff his fifth All-Star appearance, told WEEI’s Rob Bradford thesituation is “very weird” before the deadline. He namedBogaerts, Eovaldi and Christian Vazquez as players in similaruncertain situations.

“For me personally, this is actually the fourth team I’vebeen on and when you obtain traded which means you are going to be on acontending team, and when you do not get traded which means you’re on acontending team,” Martinez said. “It is a win-win.”

Hernandez, 30, is on the IL with a hipinjury, but once healthy he could give a value as a computer program player for acontender, much like what he did with the LA Dodgers inrecent years. He’s played every position apart from catcher in the big leagues.

Eovaldi, 32, has endured an up-and-down2022 season on the way to a 4.30 ERA, but his 79 strikeouts in 75.1innings showcase some upside for interested teams.

All told, it is possible the Red Sox gethot on the in a few days and leading office decides to help keep the grouptogether to produce a postseason push.

It appears like a sell-off is becomingmore probable with each passing loss, though.
