RH (formerly referred to as Restoration Hardware) is continuing on its quest to be known more for luxury experiences than its plush, expensive furniture.

Within an earnings call this week, CEO Gary Friedman announced the purchase of an 857-acre property in Napa, as first reported by the SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA Business Times. The blissful luxury retail company has plans to build up the long-abandoned former resort site right into a high-end getaway filled with its winery.

Well build an event the world hasn’t seen, Friedman said on the decision.

The former site of Napa Soda Springs Resort, the house went on the marketplace in 2019 for $50 million, the very first time it turned out accessible in 40 years. A 2019 news release announcing the listing detailed the house features, including a sensational 80-foot waterfall, vistas of Poppy Hill, the magma rock-strewn slope of Babylon Plane, and a variety of free flowing mineral springs which have been historically prized and bottled for his or her taste and health-giving properties.

Opened in 1856, the resort was a favorite holiday spot for well-to-do travelers seeking a healing experience from the springs, a burgeoning trend at that time. The resort eventually closed after World War I and later, fires ravaged most of the structures. Some original stone facades remain and its own unclear if the company includes them in its plans for development. RH wouldn’t normally provide further information on development plans to SFGATE. The price had not been disclosed.

The Corte Madera-based company has accelerated its expansion beyond furniture recently, checking galleries offering showrooms and restaurants, in addition to upscale hospitality experiences that operate like exclusive hotels. “RH SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, The Gallery” opened in March, featuring five floors of showrooms and a restaurant on Pier 70 in the Dogpatch neighborhood and RH Guesthouse NY, which include luxury suites, opened this month.

Friedman also teased another acquisition by the end of the wages call, this time around a forthcoming property in Europe he said he couldnt disclose information on yet.
