Runner-up finish not worth celebrating for Bubba Wallace

BROOKLYN, Mich. Bubba Wallace wasnt in the mood to celebrate his fourth consecutive top-10 finish. Instead, he lamented what may have been after placing second Sunday to Kevin Harvick at Michigan International Speedway.

Wallace had a near-perfect weekend, winning the pole and finishing second, but he requires a win to help make the playoffs following a selection of issues this year have derailed the 23XI Racing team in a number of races.

So, Wallace wasnt in the mood to rejoice in his best finish since placing second in the season-opening Daytona 500.

Second doesnt allow you to get in the playoffs, Wallace said. That is way worse than Daytona. Daytona, we sort of just fell into that certain. This one we’d the automobile.

Got behind a bit on adjustments in the center of the race. I didnt think we were likely to reunite up there. It had been so difficult to pass. Aero sensitivity in these cars is merely nuts. Just had to grind and stay hungry and obtain us up there, and then thing you understand I made the incorrect choice on a restart.

The ultimate restart with 35 laps to go was the main element point of the race.

Took the very best there on the restart, Wallace told NBC Sports Parker Kligerman. Thought I possibly could hang with (Harvick), and just surely got to racing (Kyle Larson) and (Joey Logano). (Logano) did an excellent job to getting another Ford contract, helping a Ford win.

Harvick explained what happened on that restart: I knew I had a need to drive it in the corner far enough. (Larson) had given me this type of good push. I had an automobile length, and I believe Bubba got about around my door.

I knew that when we are able to just log off Turn 2, wed have the opportunity. And then these were side-by-side. We drove into Turn 1 on another lap, and I dont know very well what happened. Each of them finished up all goofed up down there.

Larson explained what happened: (Logano) surely got to (Wallaces) inside. We were all sort of choked down. And Bubba just ran in very difficult to clear me, and I believe he got loose. His air got me loose. I washed up the track, and that has been the finish of our race.

That has been the main element for Harvick.

I simply was hoping that (Wallace) didnt cycle out to function as second car because then we were likely to have a fairly constant race on our hands, he said. However the more they raced, the further we got away.

There werent enough laps left for Wallace to catch Harvick.

The rule here’s not race side-by-side for too much time to let people escape, especially the first choice, Wallace said. Me, Logano and Larson, we were all choosing it. No-one would lift in (Turn) 1. I dont know very well what happened to (Larson). Me and Logano arrived and (Logano) got before me.

If we could actually clear him at that time, maybe we’re able to have made a run. Just stayed too much time behind Logano.

However, lots of people were telling Wallace he previously done well.

However the words did little to soothe Wallace.

He said deep, deep, deep down such comments mean much to him, but Wallace added: I’ve enough voices in my own head which are telling me otherwise.
