Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent his first bus of migrants to NEW YORK Friday following the citys Democratic mayor decried the thought of sending migrants to other states, in accordance with a Friday news release.
Due to President Bidens continued refusal to acknowledge the crisis due to his open border policies, hawaii of Texas has already established to take unprecedented action to help keep our communities safe, Abbott said in a statement. Along with Washington, D.C., NEW YORK may be the ideal destination for these migrants, who is able to have the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city. I am hoping he follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms in order that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns will get relief.
The Texas Republican began busing migrants to the nations capital in April, in reaction to the Biden administrations decision to get rid of Title 42, the general public health order used to quickly expel certain migrants. A federal judge later ruled that the order to get rid of the policy should be paused. (RELATED:DC Mayor Requests National Guard Deploy TO HANDLE The Border Crisis ARRIVING AT The Nations Capital)
Months in to the effort, Democrat Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser and NEW YORK Mayor Eric Adams criticized the busing, saying city resources were overwhelmed. Adams called Abbott and Republican Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, whos been busing migrants to Washington, cowards.
At that time, no buses were likely to NEW YORK, however, many of the migrants told the Daily Caller News Foundation these were rendering it their final destination.
We were gonna head to New York, however the person isn’t giving an answer to us, so now you want to head to Florida. Were seeing if people might help us because you can find individuals who will receive us in Florida and present us work to be able to get settled, one migrant departing the bus in Washington told the DCNF.
Adams said he was in talks with the government to obtain extra support from agencies just like the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and offered a note that the town is welcoming towards migrants.
The influx of several thousand migrants led Bowser to recently request the D.C. National Guard be deployed to greatly help support the migrants.
Over three million migrants have already been encountered by authorities at the U.S.-Mexico border during President Joe Bidens tenure, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). For months, encounters have surpassed 200,000, reaching record highs.
Neither Abbotts office nor Adams office taken care of immediately the DCNFs requests for comment.
