Scream star Neve Campbell has reveal her decision to leave the widely popular slasher franchise, admitting that salary negotiations triggered her departure.
In a fresh interview with People, Campbell addressed her decision to cut ties with the Scream franchise rather than go back to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in the upcoming sixth installment. The actress explained that she received an offer that she felt “didn’t equate to the worthiness” she’s taken to the franchise for days gone by 25 years, so she made a decision to stand her ground and step back from another movie.
“As a female in ecommerce, I think it is very important to us to be valued also to fight to be valued,” Campbell said, further explaining the real reason for her exit. “I honestly don’t think that when I were a guy and had done five installments of an enormous blockbuster franchise over 25 years, that the quantity that I was offered will be the number that might be wanted to a guy.
“And in my own soul, I simply couldn’t do this,” added Campbell, who currently stars in The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix. “I couldn’t walk on set feeling that feeling undervalued and feeling the unfairness, or insufficient fairness, around that.”
Campbell has starred as Sidney atlanta divorce attorneys installment of the franchise up to now, including this year’s Scream, that was released in January. She admitted that it had been “sad” to leave nonetheless it was the very best decision on her behalf, adding: “I really like these movies. I really like Sidney. I really like this franchise; I’m so grateful for this. But simultaneously, I must say i just couldn’t bear the thought of walking onto [the sixth film] and feeling undervalued.”
The actress revealed in June that she’d not be returning for Scream 6 despite reuniting with the cast on the fifth movie. “Sadly I will not be making another Scream film,” she said. “As a female, I’ve had to work difficult in my own career to determine my value, particularly when it involves Scream. I felt the offer that has been presented if you ask me did not mean the value I’ve taken to the franchise.
“It has been an extremely difficult decision to go on,” Campbell added. “To all or any my Scream fans, I really like you. You’ve been so incredibly supportive if you ask me. I’m forever grateful for you also to what this franchise has given me in the last 25 years.”
While Campbell will not be put through Ghostface’s next round of terror, Jenna Ortega will undoubtedly be back as Tara Carpenter alongside Courtney Cox who’s reprising her role as Gale Weathers, a character that she’s played atlanta divorce attorneys iteration of the film series up to now. Hayden Panettiere may also be creating a return as Kirby Reed, a fan-favorite character from Scream 4, who Ortega says will “redeem herself” within the next movie.

Production on Scream 6 happens to be underway, as the film is slated to be released early next year. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing the movie from the script compiled by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Vanderbilt can be serving as a producer alongside Paul Neinstein and William Sherak. Kevin Williamson is executive producing with Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, and Chad Villella.
Campbell, however, will next come in Peacock’s live-action gaming adaptation of Twisted Metal. She has joined the cast alongside Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Thomas Haden Church, and can Arnett. There is no word yet on once the series will undoubtedly be released, but reports have suggested that Sony will revive the Twisted Metal gaming series to help expand strengthen the TV project.
