Serena Williams Announces Retirement


Serena Williams will retire from tennis after playing in the U.S. Open beginning later this month, she announced Tuesday morning within an article in Vogue, capping the 23-time Grand Slam champions legendary career on the court.

The 40-year-old Williams will retire with Grand Slam titles on view Era.

Williams can be the highest-earning female tennis player ever, winning over $94 milion during the period of her career, a lot more than double another closest player, her sister Venus Williams, who has $42 million in career winnings.

Following a year-long absence, Serena Williams returned to play in Wimbledon in June, losing her opening match.

Her dominance on the court trailed off recently, last winning a Grand Slam in 2017.

Raised in the Compton neighborhood of LA, the Williams sisters rise to superstardom was chronicled in the 2021 King Richard, which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. Williams was among the highest-paid athletes on earth for a lot of her career, raking in tens of huge amount of money in endorsements annually from sponsors including Gatorade and Nike along with her on-court winnings. Her capital raising fund, Serena Ventures, raised $111 million in its inaugural funding round in March.

We estimate Williams will probably be worth $260 million, making her the wealthiest female athlete ever. Williams husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, includes a $70 million fortune of their own, Forbes estimated in 2019.
