Serena Williams welcomes Roger Federer to retirement club originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

It’s been a rough stretch for tennis fans saying goodbye to tennis legends Roger Federer and Serena Williams in exactly the same month.

On Thursday, Federer announced in a heartfelt message he will be retiring from the activity after playing the Laver Cup in a few days. The news headlines came significantly less than fourteen days after Williams concluded her illustrious career at the U.S. Open.

Federer and Williams are widely thought to be the very best athletes in the activity and after long, successful tennis careers, its ironic they’re closing this chapter together.

I needed to get the perfect solution to say this, as you so eloquently put this game to rest – perfectly done, exactly like your job, Williams said. I’ve always looked your decision and admired you. Our paths were always so similar, so quite similar. You inspired countless untold thousands of individuals – including me – and we’ll remember.

Federer, who recently turned 41, expressed his deep gratitude for the activity and the people he’s got encountered through the years.

As the 20-time Grand Slam champion will undoubtedly be remembered for his remarkable tennis accomplishments, he’ll also forever be referred to as a gracious champion that always showed the best degree of sportsmanship on the tennis court.

I applaud you and appearance forward to all or any that you do later on. Welcome to the retirement club. And many thanks to be you @rogerfederer, Williams concluded.

The milestone Federer and Williams reach, playing tennis until their 40s, is most definitely an anomaly. What has led the pair to keep dominating to the very day is their love and passion for the activity.

As the tennis world will skip the two tennis icons, the typical they set will forever have a confident impact on the activity.
