Surviving Monkee Micky Dolenz suing FBI, requesting files on he and bandmates

Micky Dolenz, the final living person in The Monkees, filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday contrary to the Department of Justice, seeking any records the FBI may be holding concerning the hit made-for-TV band.

The agency has previously acknowledged it kept track of the group but a lot of the agency’s records remain being unjustly kept secret, based on the federal civil complaint.

“The average person members of the Monkees, both within their own right so when an organization, were recognized to have connected with other musicians and people whose activities were monitored and/or investigated by the FBI to add, but not limited by: John Winston Lennon (and another three Beatles aswell) and Jimi Hendrix,” based on the filing by Dolenz’s lawyer Mark Zaid.

“This lawsuit is made to obtain any records the FBI created and/or possesses on the Monkees and also its individual members.”

Zaid speculated the FBI has notes about band members’ comings, going and social activities.

“EASILY had to guess, it could pertain to who they hung around with within the counterculture, anti-war and drug entertainment community,” he said in a statement to NBC News.

A representative for the Justice Department cannot be immediately reached for comment Wednesday.

George Michael “Micky” Dolenz Jr., 77, may be the only surviving person in the group, formed for an NBC sitcom of exactly the same name for just two seasons in 1966-68.

Michael Nesmith, the group’s most acclaimed musician, was 78 when he passed on late this past year.

Group heartthrob Davy Jones died at age 66 in 2012.

Bassist and singer Peter Tork was 77 during his passing in 2019.

Their most well-known songs include “Last Train to Clarksville,” “I’m a Believer,” “A BIT Me, a bit You,” “Daydream Believer” and “Pleasant Valley Sunday.”
