Suspect in beheading of mother of two away Area residence identified

LATEST Sep. 9, 1: 15 p.m. Authorities have identified the suspect accused of beheading a mother of two at a San Carlos residence.

A San Mateo County Sheriffs spokesperson told KTVU Friday that Jose Landaeta, 33, was arrested on suspicion of murder. Jail records indicate that Landaeta has been held at the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City without bail.

TV news reports have alleged that Landaeta beheaded the girl who is thought to have been around in her 20s with a sword. However, the sheriffs office have not confirmed that detail.

The sheriffs office didn’t react to a obtain comment from SFGATE, and declined to comment concerning the weapon when asked by KTVU.

Landaeta is scheduled to surface in court Friday afternoon.

Sep. 8, 4: 20 p.m. A guy allegedly beheaded a woman beyond a Bay Area residence, in accordance with multiple media reports Thursday afternoon.

At about 11: 50 a.m. Thursday, San Mateo County Sheriffs Office deputies attained a house in San Carlos at Laurel Street and Magnolia Avenue, just a couple blocks from a Caltrain station. Witnesses, the sheriffs office said in a statement, reported a continuing assault at the house.

Deputies found the womans body at the scene, however the sheriffs office didn’t specify the reason for death; anonymous police told KGO that the girl was beheaded by the suspect. KTVU reports a stabbing instrument was useful for the violent act.

The suspect has since been detained and placed directly under arrest on suspicion of murder. His identity has yet to be confirmed by the sheriff’s office by Thursday afternoon.

The victims identity can be unreleased pending family notification. KGO reports that the girl was in her 20s.
