The writer, who took overshowrunning duties from Warren Leight in June, weighed in on Kelli’s departure in the comments portion of her Aug. 24 Instagram post announcing the news headlines. “You may take the time to entertain the theory that things tend to be more complex than they come in an environment of emojis and tweets,”Davidwrote. “All I’ll say is Kelli has handled this with incredibly classy comportment.”

He continued, “She actually is, certainly, among the finest industry professionals I’ve run into in my own 24 years of writing for television. I’m saddened by her looming exit. It will likely be my lucky day easily ever reach write on her behalf again.”

E! News reached out to Kelli’s reps for comment and didn’t hear back.

While David shared he issaddened he andLaw & OrdercreatorDick Wolfare increasingly being criticized for Kelli’s departure, hesaid,”It’s an unfortunate thing to obtain the blame, but it’s portion of the job.”

The writer noted that he’s used to receiving mean comments as he’s got vitiligo, a skin pigment condition that impacts pores and skin. “I am made fun of all of my entire life for having vitiligo,” David wrote. “These spots have made me strong. If it certainly makes you feel much better to lash out at something, Perhaps it’s much better than a puppy. I could go on it.”

Kelli, meanwhile, hasn’t publicly addressed David’s comments.

In her post announcing her departure, Kelli said she was looking towards future projects, writing, “I’m so excited to take everything I’ve learned in my own time on SVU and put them toward everything that’s close to come.”

However, fans haven’t seen the final of Detective Amanda Rollins. Giddish said she’ll appear on Law & Order: SVU‘s 24th season, which premieres on NBC Sept. 22.
