Texas man who evaded police for 12 years convicted of killing his two teen daughters

A Texas man whom police had sought for 12 years was convicted Tuesday of killing his teenage daughters and sentenced alive in prison without parole, prosecutors said.

Yaser Said, 65, spent almost six of the 12 years following Jan. 1, 2008, murders on the FBIs Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list before he was within a flat in the Fort Worth suburb of Justin.

A jury convicted him of capital murder Tuesday in the slayings of daughters Sarah Said, 17, and Amina Said, 18, the Dallas County District Attorneys Office said.

Said not merely abused the household and killed their own daughters, but he also brainwashed his adult son, who’s serving 10 years in prison for helping harbor him, girls mother, Patricia Owens, said in court Tuesday.

Girls were found dead within their father’s taxi outside a hotel in Irving, a city in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, officials said.

Help! My father shot me! Sarah Said told a 911 dispatcher that night, the district attorneys office said.

Yaser Said was enthusiastic about possession and control and wouldn’t normally let his daughters date or visit the movies, prosecutor Lauren Black told jurors, NBC Dallas-Fort Worth reported.

Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot said in a statement Tuesday, While this verdict will not bring Sarah and Amina back, my office which jury did all that’s in our capacity to note that justice is performed.

Said, a naturalized U.S. citizen who was simply born in Egypt, denied killing his daughters. He said he was upset that girls had left home weekly earlier, likely to Oklahoma making use of their mother and their boyfriends, but he didn’t murder them.

I was upset because in my own culture its something to obtain upset about, he said.

He said he thought he was being accompanied by someone targeting him and he left girls, who knew how exactly to drive, with the automobile.

Said was arrested in August 2020 at a house in Justin.

Saids son and brother were charged federally with helping him evade capture following the killings.

His son, Islam Said, was sentenced this past year to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to three federal counts, including concealing an individual from arrest and obstruction of the official proceeding, the Justice Department has said.

The brother, Yassein Said, was sentenced this past year to 12 years in prison after he was found guilty of exactly the same charges.

That they had Yaser Said at a flat in Bedford, also in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, until a maintenance worker recognized him in 2017, plus they were involved with harboring him at the house in Justin, federal prosecutors have said.
