The hidden good thing about Ford’s new Mustang Supercar

The 2023 introduction of the Gen3 rules next season means Ford Performance and Ford’s Supercars homologation team Dick Johnson Racing has effectively had to build up two aerodynamic packages.

“We’ve brought our resources,” said Rushbrook. “The look studio has been very engaged to ensure we meet up with the rules but we also stay most evident to what the street car is.

“Our lead aerodynamicist Alex Allmendinger has been fantastic when it comes to running the CFD and dealing with the series and dealing with our teams, especially DJR, to ensure we meet up with the rules and also have an excellent race car.”

While Supercars happens to be undergoing its dyno testing programme in america, Rushbrook also confirmed that Ford Performance has already established a submit helping develop the Ford Gen3-spec V8.

The Ford motor for the brand new cars is founded on the Coyote production series, with Herrod Performance set to provide all Ford teams from 2023 onwards.

“We have been running it on our dyno here for months now, at this stage,” said Rushbrook of the new-spec Supercars motor.

“Lots of good work has been done. You can find facilities here that people have, with regards to the sophistication on those dynos, that help Herrod Performance and DJR in what we have to do for installing the engine in the vehicles.”
