THESE WERE Being Jerked Around: Former AG Bill Barr Defends FBI Search Warrant Of Mar-A-Lago

Because the Justice Department continues to reveal the trove of documents stashed at Mar-a-Lago, several high-profile former President Donald Trump allies are no more arriving at his defense.

On Friday, following the DOJ unsealed the court filing detailing the inventory of documents discovered in the FBI raid, Trumps former attorney general Bill Barr said on Fox News that the federal government had been jerked around by the former president when it tried to acquire classified material from the Florida estate.

In reaction to Republicans criticizing the unprecedented nature of searching a former presidents property, Barr retorted: Its also unprecedented for a president to take all of this classified information and put them in a country club.

The unsealed filing described boxes containing classified documents strewn with books and clothes; in addition, it mentioned 48 empty folders with classified banners, and yet another 42 empty folders marked with go back to staff secretary/military aide. It really is unclear at this stage if the documents missing from the folders were moved to a recovered box, or can be found elsewhere, unfound.

Andrew Weissmann, a lead prosecutor in the Mueller investigation, said on MSNBC on Friday: Since we learned that there is a search warrant and learned that there have been classified documents, that which was in the rear of everyone’s mind was worries these didn’t all stay at Mar-a-Lago, and was there any disseminationAnd once you observe how many folders were empty, this is the thing that triggers you to take a breath and really take into account what happened in their mind.

On Tuesday, the Justice Department released a court filing offering insight in to the attempts it took to retrieve the federal government documents prior to the FBI explore August 8. The filing said that the federal government suspected that government records were likely concealed and taken off the Storage Room and that efforts were likely taken up to obstruct the governments investigation. An attorney for Trump had previously said that records extracted from the White House were being held in one location only: the storage room at Mar-a-Lago.

Fridays unsealed filing effectively confirmed the suspicion, revealing that a few of the material was recovered from Trumps office, not just a storage room.

The filing also said that a few of the documents were so sensitive that even the FBI counterintelligence personnel and DOJ attorneys conducting the review required additional clearances before these were permitted to examine certain documents.
