Chelsea announced Wednesday managerThomas Tuchel has been fired in wake of Tuesday’s UEFA ChampionsLeague loss to Dinamo Zagreb.
“Because the new ownership group reaches100 days since overtaking the Club, so when it continues its hardwork to take the club forward, the brand new owners believe that it is the righttime to create this transition,” the club said in a statement.
Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett reported theBlues are anticipated to consult with Zinedine Zidane, Mauricio Pochettinoand Graham Potter about their managerial vacancy.
Alongside Chelsea’s mediocre start tothe 2022-23 season, with a 3-1-2 mark in Premier Leagueplay, ESPN’s James Olley reported the partnership between Tuchel andTodd Boehly, the club’s new owner, became “strained” over thetransfer strategy.
Tuchel expressed frustration about howthe side played in Tuesday’s away loss to Dinamo Zagreb, the firstmatch of the Champions League group stage.
“I don’t really know where thisperformance today originates from,” he told reporters. “A lack ofdetermination, too little hunger and too little intensity to actuallydo things that we are in need of at the best level. We have been clearly notwhere you want to be.”
The 49-year-old German was hired byChelsea in January 2021. He guided the club to three titles in hisfirst year: the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club WorldCup. The Blues are coming off a trophy-less campaign, however, losingin the FA Cup and EFL Cup finals last term.
Tuchel finishes his 100-match tenurewith a 60-24-16 record.
Chelsea’s statement said it’ll work “swiftly” to locate a new manager. Until then, the existing coachingstaff will handle the club’s training and preparations.
Zidane has been associated with several clubssince his second tenure with Real Madrid ended in-may 2021, but he’sexpressed a need to dominate France’s national team.
“I wish to do it, needless to say. I willbe [France’s coach], I am hoping, 1 day. When? That isn’t around me,” the former midfielder said in June. “I wish to come back to where it started with the Frenchnational team. I met this French team as a new player, and it’s really the bestthing that ever happened certainly to me.”
It is a position currently held byDidier Deschamps, but Zidane may choose to wait until following the WorldCup, which begins in November, to see if the job comesavailable.
Potter makes plenty of sense on thesurface after strong just work at Brighton & Hove Albion and SwanseaCity recently. Brighton is fourth in the first Premier Leaguetable thanks to a 4-1-1 record, which include wins over ManchesterUnited and Leicester City.
Pochettino was fired by ParisSaint-Germain in July. He owns a lot of Premier League experiencehaving led Tottenham Hotspur from May 2014 through November 2019,including a set you back the 2019 Champions League final.
As the club looks for a newmanager, the Blues go back to action Saturday if they travel toCraven Cottage to defend myself against Fulham.
