Its been only a rumor for a long period that Marvel can make a Thunderbolts crossover movie which will deliver a fresh Avengers-like team to the MCU. But Marvel only confirmed the Thunderbolts project a couple weeks ago at Comic-Con 2022 without revealing the Thunderbolts associates.
The crossover would be the final title of MCU Phase 5, hitting theaters on July 6th, 2024. With that timeline at heart, Marvel will need to start shooting the movie at some time next year. Therefore, Kevin Feige & Co. will soon need to reveal the complete cast of the Suicide Squad-like movie. But before that occurs, we curently have a leak that mentions a few of the superheroes and anti-heroes who may be on the team.
If youve watched the MCU Phase 4, you almost certainly have candidates at heart for the Thunderbolts team. But, however, some spoilers might follow below so stop reading now if you wish to prevent them.
The first candidates
We were looking to see some kind of Thunderbolts Easter eggs in Black Widow, the initial movie of Phase 4. In accordance with some leaks, Thunderbolt Ross (William Hurt) must have been the teams founder. But that never happened. And Hurt has sadly passed on since that time.
What we did get, however, are two potential Thunderbolts members: Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).
As a reminder, the Thunderbolts team includes mostly former villains and anti-heroes. Theyre criminals who need redemption. There also may be several superheroes who lost their way.
Then The Falcon and the wintertime Soldier gave us additional prospects. Zemo (Daniel Brhl) may be the obvious choice. Then we’ve US Agent (Wyatt Russell), who ought to be on that list. And Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) may be an established Avenger, but he may possibly also help the Thunderbolts at some time down the road.
Lets remember that Falcon and Black Widow gave us Julia Louis-Dreyfuss Val. She certainly appears like the type of Fury-like character to lead the Thunderbolts. And she may have already begun recruiting some the associates.
Then theres the puzzling Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp). She’s no superpowers, but she’s been owning a long con in the MCU.
Add Echo (Alaqua Cox) from Hawkeye and Abomination (Tim Roth) from She-Hulk, and you also end up getting a lot of candidates for the Thunderbolts cast. Even the MCUs Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) may need to join the team, given what he did as Ronin after Infinity War.
Thunderbolts associates start leaking
Having said that, not absolutely all of the cast Thunderbolts members ought to be as prominent or beloved as a number of the characters mentioned previously. Remember what happened with the majority of the associates in the Suicide Squad movies. We’d villains and anti-heroes we were designed to love. And we also had cannon fodder. We ought to expect a similar thing from the Thunderbolts roster.
All that is merely speculation at the moment. But we’ve a leak that could give us a concept of what type of Thunderbolts associates we have to expect. The leak comes from Reddit, and lists most of the characters weve already discussed.
Weve added explanations after every purported member, because the list contains both character names, superhero names, and actor names:
- Florence Pugh she plays Yelena Belova, a breakout star of Black Widow and Hawkeye
- Anthony Ramos he could be rumored to play the Ironheart villain, The Hood
- Julia Louis-Dreyfus she plays Val in Black Widow and The Falcon and the wintertime Soldier
- Abomination can be done Tim Roth played the type in The Incredible Hulk and She-Hulk
- The Punisher can be done Jon Bernthal played The Punisher in the non-MCU Netflix shows
- Wyatt Russel can be done he played John Walker/US Agent in The Falcon and the wintertime Soldier
- Songbird not on the team the type did not come in the MCU
- Zemos status is unknown Zemo doesn’t need any longer introductions; his dance will do
Basically, the Thunderbolts members seem obvious to any Marvel fan who has seen everything in the MCU up to now. Well have to wait and see who Marvel picks for the team.
