Put he in pictures. Kansas City Royals reliever Josh Staumont entered a pristine game in the seventh inning and the Dodgers promptly lit him up with four hits and a walk on the way to an 8-3 victory Friday night.

Staumont retired no-one and all five runners scored, saddling him having an ERA that has been pure Buzz Lightyear: To Infinity and Beyond!

Dodgers starter Tony Gonsolin reached for the stars himself, carrying an ideal game in to the sixth inning and a no-hitter in to the seventh. He retired the initial batter in the seventh but surrendered two hits and a run before being removed after issuing his third walk in two innings.

Still, Gonsolin improved to a fairly remarkable 14-1, his ERA dipping to 2.24 because the Dodgers won their 11th straight game. The right-hander took a 1.62 ERA in to the All-Star Game, but yielded 12 earned runs in his first three starts since that time before throwing five scoreless innings in his last start. It seems he’s got returned to create.

“I felt like I was throwing lots of strikes early with all my pitches, that was good,” Gonsolin said. “These were swinging a whole lot therefore i kept my pitch count down and got some soft contact and guys made good plays.”

Staumont, in his third year out of Azusa Pacific University and La Habra High, normally is among Kansas City’s most dependable bullpen arms. But he was greeted by singles from pinch-hitter Gavin Lux and Trayce Thompson. After walking Mookie Betts, Trea Turner put the Dodgers on the scoreboard with a two-run single and Freddie Freeman followed having an RBI double.

Two innings earlier Turner, Freeman and can Smith developed the bases loaded and couldn’t deliver.

“It had been nice ahead by way of a couple innings later and obtain the work done,” Turner said. “The 1st time for the reason that situation stinks nevertheless, you need to keep your mind up as you know youll be back up there in exactly the same situation another inning or two or the very next day.”

Exit Staumont. Turner scored on a wild pitch by Luke Weaver and Freeman scored on Justin Turner’s sacrifice fly. A three-run home run in the eighth by Thompson his third hit put the overall game away.

“Hes attempting to rewrite the scouting report on himself,” manager Dave Roberts said of Thompson. “Theres a genuine conviction and intent to barrel the baseball up and make solid contact…. He’s always had the energy however the swing and miss was there. Hes done lots of things to completely clean that up.”

The Royals started six rookies contrary to the veteran Dodgers and the contrast in approach was evident in early stages.

Baseball etiquette forbids anyone from speaking with the starting pitcher before a game. Surely got to keep him totally focused goes the thinking. Kansas City is really a bit too chummy for that.

A long time prior to the game, a security guard spied a shaggy-haired son wearing a backpack over a T-shirt walking by way of a gate about 40 yards away. The guard bellowed, Hey, Daniel! . . . Go get em! The son smiled, gave the guard a thumbs-up and sauntered in to the stadium.

The relaxed approach worked for Royals starter Daniel Lynch, a 6-foot-6 left-hander who tossed five scoreless innings before an increased pitch count forced his departure.

Gonsolins pregame ritual, meanwhile, was in stark contrast. Wearing headphones as large as earmuffs, he paced for 90 minutes, circling through the clubhouse and dining area without making eye contact, then taking brisk walks in the long tunnel beyond your clubhouse to the weight room and back.

“Just section of my process, its section of my game,” he said.

Gonsolin’s split-finger fastball dive-bombed through the strike zone, his slider was sharp and he commanded his fastball well through five innings. With one out in the seventh, however, Vinnie Pasquantino swatted a difficult single to right field to get rid of the no-hit bid.

Shot has Kershaw eyeing October

Clayton Kershaw was nearly giddy with delight after throwing a long time prior to the game. His back didnt hurt and he said he expects to keep to throw each day and pitch from the bullpen mound inside a week.

The epidural steroid injection he received Aug. 6 relieved the pain he felt when he removed himself from the game contrary to the SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA Giants on Aug. 4.

I must say i didnt know very well what to anticipate, and after obtaining the epidural its been feeling better days gone by 3 to 5 days, Kershaw said. Its bouncing back pretty much.

The Dodgers enjoy at 16-game lead in the National League West on the NORTH PARK Padres who lost Fernando Tatis Jr. to an 80-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug enabling Kershaw along with other Dodgers pitchers dealing with injuries to be methodical within their recoveries.

Nobody has been rushed back too early. Not Dustin May. Not Walker Buehler. Not Blake Treinen. Rather than Kershaw.

Its certainly an extravagance, Roberts said. I dont think we’d take action much different because players health is paramount. But, yeah, if you are in a position to be extra cautious, its an advantage.

Kershaw, for just one, has his sights set on the postseason.

I understand what I must do to be equipped for October and I feel we have plenty of time to perform all that, that is great, he said.

Roberts enjoyed seeing Kershaw so buoyant.

Watching him maneuver around, and the conversations, Clayton can be an easy book to learn in a few senses, he said. He could be talkative and jovial, and I believe thats a very important thing.

Short hops: The Dodgers placed catcher Austin Barnes on the household emergency list, meaning he’ll be inactive for at the least three days and no more than seven. Tony Wolters was called up from triple A. Wolters, 30, has six years of major league experience and was the Colorado Rockies starting catcher in 2019. . . . The contusion on Max Muncys right hand that caused him to leave Wednesdays game contrary to the Minnesota Twins has healed sufficiently. He served as designated hitter Friday and Roberts said Muncy is scheduled to play third base Saturday. . . . The Dodgers will tour the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum on Saturday morning, then will need part in a Salute to the Negro Leagues event at prior to the game at Kauffman Stadium. Buck O’Neil’s Hall of Fame plaque will undoubtedly be on public display through the game. O’Neil, a Kansas Citian the majority of his life, played in the Negro Leagues from 1937 to 1948 and became the initial Black coach in the National or American leagues in 1962.
