Former US President Donald Trump has slammed the FBIs raid on his Florida home as a travesty of justice as he made his first public appearance because the August 8 search.
Addressing supporters at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, Trump said the raid was an egregious abuse of regulations that was likely to create a backlash famous brands which nobody has ever seen.
He also hit back at his successor, Joe Biden, who in a speech this week described Trump and his Make America Great Again (MAGA) supporters as extremists who threaten the foundations of our republic. Biden had also delivered his hard-hitting speech in Pennsylvania.
Trump slammed Bidens address as the utmost vicious, hateful and divisive speech ever delivered by an American president.
Hes an enemy of hawaii. You wish to know the reality. The enemy of hawaii is him, the former president said.
Republicans in the MAGA movement aren’t the ones attempting to undermine our democracy, continued Trump, who has repeatedly claimed the 2020 presidential election, which he lost, was rigged and whose party has made unfounded claims of voter fraud a central plank of these platform.
We have been the ones attempting to save our democracy, very easy. The chance to democracy originates from the radical left, not from the proper, he said.
Trump was appearing at the rally in Wilkes-Barre before Novembers midterm elections, that could see Bidens Democrats lose control of both houses of Congress. Despite the fact that Trump isn’t on the ballot, Biden, 79, is wanting to turn the vote right into a referendum on his predecessor in a bid to carry to the Senate and House of Representatives.
Al Jazeeras Mike Hanna, reporting from Washington, DC, said many Republicans were concerned that Trumps participation in the campaign could hurt the partys chances in the November election.
Trump remains an extremely divisive figure, said Hanna.
In Pennsylvania, hes supporting both candidates for governor and the Senate. Both these politicians are dropping very badly in the polls as of this particular moment. Trump has already established mixed results with regards to the candidates he’s got endorsed in a variety of elections lately. But generally, many Republicans are worried that his active participation may lead to a split, said Hanna.
Now, the Democrats, having recognised this, are framing the midterm elections as a kind of a referendum on Donald Trump, particularly on which many regard as criminal behaviour. This may provide ammunition to the Democrats, also it may be a significant threat to the Republican Party come November.
The duelling visits by Biden and Trump to Pennsylvania, an integral battleground state, come because the Republican is under increasing legal pressure on the documents found by the FBI at his Mar-a-Lago estate.
The Department of Justice has said in court filings that highly classified government documents, including some marked ” INSIDE INFO “, were discovered in Trumps personal office through the raid.
An in depth list of that which was seized also showed Trump held to a lot more than 11,000 unclassified government records he claims are his to help keep but legally are owned by the National Archives.
On the list of papers seized were 18 documents labelled ” INSIDE INFO “, 53 labelled Secret and another 31 marked Confidential.
Of these, seven ” INSIDE INFO ” files, 17 Secret files and three Confidential files were retrieved from Trumps private office.
Agents also found several dozen empty folders labelled Classified at work, raising speculation that sensitive documents might have been lost, destroyed or moved.
Trump, who’s keeping supporters and commentators guessing about whether he intends to perform for president again in 2024, has sued to really have the documents turned to a neutral special master, a move which could slow the governments probe.
