Trump calls on FBI to come back “privileged” documents seized at Mar-a-Lago

Former President Donald Trump on Sunday called on the FBI to come back seized documents which are allegedly protected by attorney-client and executive privileges.

The picture as a whole: The FBI searched Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home on Monday, recovering 11 sets of classified documents.

  • Fox News reported on Saturday that the FBI seized boxes included in attorney-client privilege and perhaps executive privilege, in accordance with unnamed sources acquainted with the investigation.

What he’s saying: “It has just been learned that the FBI, in its now famous raid of Mar-a-Lago, took boxes of privileged attorney-client material, and in addition executive privileged material, that they knowingly shouldn’t took,” Trump said on Truth Social.

  • “By copy of the TRUTH, I respectfully request these documents be immediately returned to the positioning from which these were taken,” he said.

Background: Trump and his associates have frequently sought to claim executive privilege to avoid the release of documents or information.

  • Trump attemptedto claim executive privilege over presidential records that the home Jan. 6 committee requested this past year but was denied.
  • Several former White House officials also have refused to seem prior to the committee, citing executive privilege.
