Former President Donald Trump on Monday claimed the Federal Bureau of Investigations took all three of his passports through the agencys raid of his Mar-a-Lago property, days following the Justice Department released a listing of documents seized in the search.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the agency stole his three passports, including one which was expired, as part of the search.
He repeated allegations the raid amounted to political persecution, calling it an assault on a political opponent at a rate never seen before inside our Country.
The allegations come days following the Justice Department released the search warrant along with other documents linked to the FBIs search, which made no reference to the passports.
Its not yet determined why Trump has three passports, though U.S. citizens are permitted to hold several valid U.S. passport simultaneously, according to the National Passport Information Center.
Federal agents searched Trumps Mar-a-Lago property the other day where they recovered 20 boxes of materials, including various classified materials; miscellaneous secret, ” inside info ” and confidential documents; photos; a handwritten note; the executive grant of clemency for Trump ally Roger Stone and info re: President of France, in accordance with a listing of documents released by the Justice Department. The agency also released a copy of the search warrant for the raid and two other attachments, among which notes FBI investigators want into whether Trump violated the Espionage Act, which prohibits the mishandling of national security documents, among other conduct. The Washington Post also reported investigators completed the raid searching for classified documents associated with nuclear material. The FBI raided Trumps property in link with a broader probe into documents Trump taken to his Florida estate after his presidency ended, 15 boxes which the National Archives took back January. Prior to the search, federal agents had issued a grand subpoena and reportedly took more documents from Trumps property in June before being tipped off that more records may be at Mar-a-Lago. Trump and his allies have framed the search as a political witch hunt.
