CHICAGO (AP) Minnesota Twins catcher Gary Snchez was feeling fortunate Sunday after he nearly walked right into a major injury.
Snchez was almost struck in the top by way of a full swing by teammate Gilberto Celestino during Minnesotas 5-1 victory contrary to the Chicago White Sox.
The incident occurred when Chicago earned Kendall Graveman to handle Snchez with two outs in the eighth inning. Snchez was heading back again to the dugout for more information concerning the reliever when he was almost hit by Celestino in the on-deck circle.
Celestino missed Snchezs face by mere inches.
I had a couple of minutes to go and have a couple of questions about this pitcher, Snchez said by way of a translator. I saw his bat was on his shoulder just standing there in the on-deck circle therefore i returned to the dugout and I didnt notice he was swinging.
Snchez lowered his head following the bat passed, and Celestino leaned back having an incredulous look on his face.
He almost hit me, but thank God, nothing happened, Snchez said. Its just a major accident. Its fine.
