Ukraine live briefing: Zelensky says Russian plans to use Mariupol fighters would make peace talks impossible

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has drawn another red line in potential negotiations with Moscow to get rid of the war. Russian-backed authorities are reportedly likely to hold an effort on Aug. 24 Ukraines Independence Day for the fighters captured throughout their final defense of the Azovstal steel plant in the battle for Mariupol. A Chernobyl tour group secretly helped track Russias invasion. Hours in to the first day of the war on Feb. 24, Yaroslav Yemelianenko was at his home in Kyiv, glued to a secret live blast of the gate to Chernobyl, the website of the worlds worst nuclear disaster. In disbelief, he watched as Russian tanks rolled by the yellow information booth advertising his company, Chernobyl Tour, and drove south toward the Ukrainian capital. Publicly, Ukraines leaders said Russian troops hadn’t yet crossed there.

But Chernobyl Tour had a little, battery-operated camera perched by the checkpoint in to the zone, The Washington Posts Miriam Berger writes from Chernobyl, Ukraine. On your day of the invasion, it provided early information regarding Russias movement of troops through Belarus and past Chernobyl as Moscow began its try to take Kyiv.
