When Real Girlfriends in Paris star Victoria Zito arrived as bisexual as cameras rolled for the brand new Bravo reality show late this past year, she felt immediate relief.
I dont have any choice but to embrace it now. Its actually an extremely beautiful thing devoid of that choice. Now the planet knows, she tells Page Six within an exclusive interview before Monday nights premiere.
Simultaneously, its also a feeling of relief. Its a feeling of relief because I understand that I would even have a larger support system than I’d experienced not doing the show, Zito elaborates. Theres no turning back.
The inaugural episode sees the 26-year-old tell her castmates during a Friendsgiving celebration that she was exploring an enchanting connection with a female. The revelation was met with ardent enthusiasm and a huge group hug from Anya Firestone, Emily Gorelik, Adja Toure and longtime pal Margaux Lignel.
I wasnt expecting that and thats nothing against them. It has more related to my very own upbringing and my very own journey and my very own contact with things, says the American expat, born and raised in Sunnyvale, Texas, to a conservative family that she says used to create fun of gay people.
Understandably, this conditioning left Zito fearful of skeptical reactions.
I thought thered become more questions like, Are you currently sure? Or, Why? she admits. But to possess so much love from my castmates felt amazing. Its important to get that support group where you truly feel like you will be your most authentic self.
Zito says Lignel, 27 who knew about her bisexuality before the cast dinner offered crucial support that made her developing journey less complicated to navigate, knowing it could eventually be broadcast.
It will be had not been easy. I must say i am super thankful that I got eventually to film with among my close friends, Margaux, she explains. She really was holding my hand through the entire whole season.
Zito, a small-town girl long encouraged by her parents to adhere to the status quo, married a guy at a age. The couple eventually moved to the town of Light in 2017 after Zito scored a scholarship to the prestigious art school Parsons Paris, where she studied fashion design.
But once Zito discovered her spouses infidelity, she filed for divorce a liberating decision that helped her accept her identity within the LGBTQIA+ community.
After getting divorced, I must say i decided Im done doing things for other folks and living to get other peoples approvals. What’s life if youre not living it on your own? she says. Everything Im doing now could be really for me personally and Im really happy about this.
Zito, who divulged on RGIP that she had yet ahead out to her family as she was worried of the judgment, tells Page Six that her mother now knows.
Im really excited for folks to observe how that unfolds, she teases. It had been an extremely unexpected response. I’ll say that.
Zito can be thrilled for fans to see her wade deeper in to the dating pool with Emmelle the British beauty she met by way of a dating app on the series.
Shes amazing, she says of her crush, with whom she felt a deep connection that transcended mere sexual attraction.
I cant waitfor everyone to observe how it plays out, the Chloe Colette designer adds, further gushing, Shes really hot.
Regardless of what happens with Emmelle, Zito is proud to become a conduit for queer representation but hopes to inspire all viewers giving them a 360-degree understand this exhilarating chapter of her life.
When I enrolled in this, I decided that I would be an open book with my career, my friendships, my children and my love life. And by the end of your day, if this lands with one individual and inspires one individual to call home as their authentic selves or follow out their real, authentic dream, then its all worthwhile if you ask me, she says.
I’d like the queer community but additionally anyone aswell to learn that it doesnt matter your upbringing, it doesnt matter your surroundings. The most crucial part is that youre living your authentic self and until youre doing that, its impossible to be happy.
Real Girlfriends in Paris premieres with two episodes Monday, Sept. 5, at 9: 15 pm ET on Bravo.
