WBC allows free negotiation period for Jose Zepeda vs. Regis Prograis

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman gave the term free of charge negotiations between Jose Zepeda and Regis Prograis for the vacant WBC super lightweight title.

There may be a boxing bout to look for the new WBC super lightweight champion coming. Negotiations are opening between Jose Zepeda and Regis Prograis to look for the new WBC super lightweight champion.

Sources revealed to FanSided that WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman provided written confirmation that free negotiations between WBC rated number 1 super lightweight Zepeda and WBC number 3 super lightweight Regis Prograis could begin negotiations to look for the next WBC super lightweight champion.

Josh Taylor was the undisputed super lightweight champion but relinquished his WBC title after being ordered to fight number 1 contender Zepeda. The WBC ordered Zepeda vs. Jose Ramirez, nonetheless it seems that plans have shifted to Zepeda vs. Prograis.

Its a startling turn of events, but Zepeda and Prograis have until Tuesday, Aug. 30, to attain a deal prior to the fight moves to a purse bid.

Taylor also vacated his WBA title in-may. He fought Jack Catterall to a split decision victory in February, but many felt Catterall deserved the win. Taylor does all he is able to to force a rematch with Catterall before moving to welterweight.

Alberto Puello may be the number 1 contender on the WBA side. Prograis is rated number six, while Ramirez doesnt appear on the rankings despite being the former unified super lightweight champion.

Zepeda and Ramirez have exactly the same manager, Rick Mirigian. Ramirez defeated Zepeda by majority decision in 2019, but Zepeda gets the green light to fight for the WBC title.

The ESPN Ringside Twitter account reported that Ramirez dropped out from the Zepeda bout because of conflicting schedules, as he could be set to obtain married in October.
