The Chicago Cubs havent offered Willson Contreras an authentic contract extension since 2018, per a recently available report. That wont cut it.

Contreras wasnt always the centerpiece of an absolute team in Chicago, but hes been an effective franchise backstop because the Cubs won the planet Series in 2016. Hes made three All-Star teams. What more did Jed Hoyer have to see?

Yet, predictably, Contreras will undoubtedly be among the last bits of Chicagos World Series team traded away this deadline. Its been per year since Hoyer dealt Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, Kyle Schwarber and much more. Now, its Contreras turn.

Per Jesse Rogers of ESPN, said trade was quite a while coming:

Contreras said hed be ready to look at a long-term offer if the Cubs approached him with one, but that hasnt happened. The sides havent had meaningful contract extension talks since 2018, in accordance with a source acquainted with the situationIts not around me, Contreras said. Should they include something, Im confident Im likely to consider it.’

Cubs arent doing right by their stars

After winning a global Series in 2016, the Cubs competitive window was spacious. Nonetheless it was forced shut by way of a front office which refused to invest the required capital on its star players.

The players have acknowledged this, as the front office continue steadily to reside in a fairytale. Nonetheless, its time and energy to move ahead.

Bryant has some advice for famous brands Contreras and Ian Happ, which he told our Noah Yingling in Colorado earlier this week:

Everything really do arrived at a finish eventually and, in as soon as, it might sort of sting a little, Bryant told FanSided. You may feel unwanted or whatever but its not necessarily about this. Its about where in fact the team is and their current situation. Im just really glad I experienced that. I enjoyed my time (in Chicago), I enjoyed my amount of time in SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, and Im really enjoying my time here and Im meeting many people on the way. Good ballplayers, new experiences, and, when I look back on my career, when its all said and done, I could really appreciate the brand new chapters in my own career and new experiences and truly be thankful.

The Cubs era is fully gone much too soon, and Contreras may be the final little bit of a puzzle which, at one point, appeared complete.
