Bleacher Report catches you through to the most recent news from WWE and AEW.

WWE Booking Roman Reigns With Long-Term Plan at heart

Triple H felt arguably his first twinge of backlash since overtaking WWE creative after Clash at the Castle, with many feeling Drew McIntyre must have unseated Roman Reigns as undisputed champion.

It appears there is never any thought directed at putting the strap on McIntyre.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio said WWE is booking Reigns with a long-term plan set up on who’ll unseat him.

“Their long-term story could have managed to get impossible for [Drew McIntyre] to win [at Clash at the Castle]. After all, for the night time he must have won, but theyre telling long-term stories,” Meltzer said. “They need Roman Reigns to become a multi-, multi-year champion. If thats their goal, they didnt desire to screw up their goal. They certainly may have done it, but thats their mentality.”

With Reigns not likely to wrestle at Extreme Rules and Survivor Series typically not featuring title defenses, it’s increasingly likely he’ll be champion once we go to 2023.

That leaves Day 1 or Royal Rumble because the likely next event where we’ll see where this story is headed. Cody Rhodes and The Rock have already been both opponents most-often associated with Reigns at next year’s WrestleMania. If WWE will get a Reigns-Rock match, it generally does not require a championship; the business might use the Rumble in an effort to obtain the strap off Reigns and move ahead to the Rock storyline.

If Rock isn’t medically cleared or his schedule books up, Rhodes winning his first WWE championship at WrestleMania is practical.

Veer Mahaan Push Placed on Hold

It generally does not appear Veer Mahaan would be the one unseating Roman Reigns.

Fightful Select reported you can find no “imminent creative plans” for Mahaan, who have not appeared on television in nearly per month. Veer’s last match was a squash of Beaux Keller on the Aug. 15 edition of Raw. He’s got not been applied to house shows since.

Vince McMahon was still in control through the infancy of Veer’s push, but it’s unclear if there is ever a lot of a plan for this to sustain. WWE spent months running “Veer’s coming” vignettes without payoff, and he spent his brief run in the spotlight mostly crushing jobbers.

There have been occasional flashes of potential on the mic, but it’s clear Triple H’s creative vision differs from his predecessor in the handling of Mahaan.

Sasha Banks Really wants to Own Her Character

We might have gotten our first hint at what it will require to obtain Sasha Banks back WWE.

The Boss spoke on the significance of owning her creations during an appearance on Ahch-To Radio.

“For me personally, its actually just owning my very own IP [Intellectual Property] and owning the type behind the type and really defining, who’s the character that’s playing the type,” Banks said. “Its actually just finding yourself. With regards to even wrestling, thats a character that I develop, and I portray myself, and you also have your writers to arrive and giving a bit more information on what they see for this. Its really with regards to characters that you experienced, its everything you see for that character because only you understand how youre likely to play it, and only you understand how you start to see the vision of this character.”

WWE owns all intellectual property rights to Sasha Banks and essentially every gimmick she’s used during the period of her professional wrestling career. McMahon consistently changed the established names of characters to provide WWE ownership, often drawing the ire of fans. Triple H showed less of an obsession with IP during his tenure running NXT, but it’s unclear if that may carry over.

Though Banks was largely an in-house developmental project, it is possible she requested ownership over her character within her negotiations to come back. It’s widely expected that she and Naomi will undoubtedly be back on WWE television sometime immediately after walking out over frustration making use of their creative direction in the spring.
