Yankees News: Aroldis Chapman Activated from IL After Injury Rehab; Ryan Weber DFA’d

Set Number: X164121TK1

THE BRAND NEW York Yankees announced Friday they have reinstated left-hander Aroldis Chapman from the 15-day injured list and designated right-hander Ryan Weber for assignment.

Chapman was positioned on the IL last month after suffering contamination from the new tattoo he previously gotten.

Chapman’s return is vital for the brand new York bullpen because the Yankees turn to gear up for the postseason.

The 34-year-old has been with the Yankees since 2017 and contains earned three All-Star selections in his tenure in pinstripes. While he’s undoubtedly past his prime, he’s still a highly effective reliever and something New York will require down the stretch.

Chapman has posted a 4.70 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 35 strikeouts in 30.2 innings across 36 games this year. He’s got also recorded nine saves.

Along with Chapman, the Yankees could also possibly start to see the return of left-handed reliever Zack Britton prior to the playoffs. Manager Aaron Boone told reporters earlier this week he is “doing effectively” in his recovery from elbow surgery.

Clay Holmes, Jonathan Loisiga, Lucas Luetge and Lou Trivino are on the list of relievers which have helped hold down the bullpen this season.

The Yankees are first in the AL East having an 87-56 record entering Friday’s game contrary to the Milwaukee Brewers, 6.5 games prior to the second-place Toronto Blue Jays.

As the Bronx Bombers do have a big lead in the division, the team has struggled because the July All-Star break and doesn’t look nearly as dominant since it did through the first 1 / 2 of the growing season.

However, it’s worth noting the Yankees have won their last four games and appearance to be trending in the proper direction at only the proper time. If the momentum can carry in to the playoffs, are going to probably the most dangerous teams in the league.
